Trends in Residential Building Materials in the State of Victoria

Abstract As the population in Victoria continues to grow, there has been a corresponding increase building approvals across State. Houses characterised as low-rise residential buildings often take largest share of these approvals, with incessant activities being driven by record low interest rates. Low-rise comprise various forms that use number specified construction materials construct envelope and other structural non-structural elements. used for constructing envelopes continue evolve, must be fit purpose, satisfy design criteria performance requirements, while aesthetically pleasing. This research analyses trend using data from permits issued between 1996 2019. The analysis shows traditional double brick wall systems suspended timber floors have reduced popularity houses built 21st century. also veneer cladding over slab-on-ground footings is dominant form roof material influenced geographical location. Insights indicate very little innovation emerged despite its crucial role providing thermal comfort inhabitants.
